One question I keep getting from a lot of people is, How do I get people to listen to my ideas? And the interesting thing is that these people are coming from two very different ends of the spectrum. On the one hand, I have people who are struggling with being seen as too young or inexperienced, and so their ideas aren’t being taken seriously. On the other hand, I have people who are “overly experienced” and who have been on the job for a long time and are perceived as being stuck in their ways and resistant to innovation.
I have five great tips for you, regardless of whether you’re on one side of the spectrum or the other about how to get buy-in for your ideas and influence others. It all starts with how we think about convincing others.
Tip #1: When thinking about getting buy-in and
influencing others, we often think about how to convince people.
However, what I’ve discovered is that it’s not about convincing
others — it's about convincing yourself and showing that confidence
and belief in your own ideas!
Think about how you’re presenting yourself — do you have the confidence and conviction in your own ideas before you put them forward?
Tune in for four more tips about how to get people to listen to your ideas, whether you’re new and inexperienced, or are a legacy leader who is “overly experienced.”
If you are ready to:
get buy-in from key decision-makers on your next big idea
be a high-impact, high-value member that ignites change
foster a culture of innovation where everyone on your team is bringing innovative ideas that tackle challenges and seize opportunities…
